Barbara studied painting at the Gloucestershire College of Art and Design (now University of Gloucestershire) where she gained an honours degree in Fine Art. “I have aquired a fascination for the unique quality of light which one finds on the Cornish coastline during my many holidays in and around the St. Ives area of Cornwall over the years. I love to watch the play of light on sand, sea and figures on the beach and to absorb the life and movement, but at the same time a kind of calm contentment which, with the sound of the sea in the background, it seems to evoke and is something I have tried to capture again and again in my paintings by the careful observation and juxtaposition of tones and colours created by the changing light, which, for me, hold the great joy and excitement of painting. I love the way in which light affects the appearance and colour of objects and find it a great source of creative energy which I hope is evident in my paintings. Amongst the many artists by whom I am inspired are Fred Cumin and Ken Howard.” Barbara has exhibited widely and her work is held in private collections both in the UK and abroad.
